From the boat deck of the M/V Snapper we saw what have to be some of the most beautiful places on earth. The trip took about six or seven hours. The Mail Boat calls at Admiralty Bay on Bequia, Charlestown on Canouan, Saline Bay on Mayreau, and Clifton Harbor on Union Island. Cargo for the private resorts on Palm Island and exclu$ive Petit St. Vincent is unloaded at Clifton.
Some advice for mail boat travelers:

The main cargo deck of the M/V Snapper. Including frozen food (in 90° heat), rock salt (still used by the locals to preserve meat), building materials, livestock, and a leaking 55 gallon drum of gasoline among a multitude of other things. |

The view leaving Kingstown Harbor, St. Vincent. The metal object at the bottom of the picture is a fold down ramp to facilitate loading and unloading. |

Admiralty Bay, Bequia. We arrived at around 2:00 PM, by this time we were really hungry. The M/V Snapper does not stop for very long at Bequia, because other boats serve the island. We were fortunate enough to meet a guy from Union Island on his way home from UNLV who took me on a mad dash to roti stand for food. We barely made it back. I am very grateful to him. |

The south side of Bequia (Friendship Bay) on the left. The island in the center is Petit Nevis, the island on the right is Isle a Quatre. Both are uninhabited. |

Approaching Canouan. The M/V Snapper must have started life as a car ferry in Scandinavia, the signage was in a Scandinavian language. She seems to have been designed for sheltered water, because she rolled a lot in the not too rough open water. |

Paradise on Earth. Salt Whistle Bay, Mayreau. We were "marooned" here at the Salt Whistle Bay Club for a few hours after our snorkel trip while the divemaster, Glenroy, took a client diving (such a hardship!). The beach and snorkeling are fantastic (I saw lobster in waist deep water). The island is only 10 yards wide in the center of the picture. |

The M/V Snapper calls at Saline Bay, Mayreau. Cruise ships anchor here a disgorge hundreds of people here every so often. The beach was large and beautiful. We didn't dock here, so people expecting cargo came out on boats and the cargo was transferred. |

Journey's end. Clifton Harbor on Union Island. We landed only a few minutes before dark. And dark in these parts is DARK. |
