General Electric U33B

The General Electric U33B was a 3300 horsepower unit built for high speed mainline service. Conrail inherited 81 U33B's from the Penn Central, The first of these units were ordered by the PRR and delivered to the Penn Central in 9/68.  The last were delivered in 6/70.  All of units were retired by 1985.

   U33B 2896 is the property of the Panther Valley railroad when this photo was taken in Jim Thorpe, Pa. in April, 1984.  The PV had been recently founded to take over operations of the former CNJ Nesquehoning Branch what anthracite coal business was left.  The PV and this locomotive are now the property of the Reading & Northern.
