The U30B was General Electric's 3000 horsepower answer to EMD's 3000
horsepower GP-40 in 1966. Conrail inherited its 60 U30B's from the Penn Central,
which inherited them from the New York Central. All of the U30B's were
built between 12/66 and 12/67. Most of the U30B's were retired in 1982
with the arrival of the B36-7's, 19 units survived until 1985.
