General Electric U28C

The General Electric U28C was a 2800 horsepower road freight unit.  Conrail inherited 15 U28C's from the Penn Central , which inherited them from the Pennsylvania Railroad.  These units were all retired by 1983.

Ex-PC U28C 6528 was the middle unit on the PP&L coal train I caught in East Stroudsburg, Pa. on November 24,  1978.  See My Favorites for more about this train.
