General Electric U23C

General Electric 2250 horsepower U23C was a surefooted roadswitcher.  Conrail inherited 19 U23C's from Penn Central. The Penn Central purchased these units in 1970, six months after the EMD SD-38's, for the same hump service.  These units remained in hump and transfer service until their retirement in 1997, when Conrail closed a few large yards.
