The EMD SW-7 was the 1200 horsepower replacement for the NW-2. These units are nearly identical to the SW-9, and Conrail intermixed them in the numbering scheme. Conrail's SW-7's were built in 1950 and 1951. Conrail inherited 127 SW-7s from the Penn Central (102; PRR 47, NYC 55), Peoria & Eastern (6), Erie Lackawanna (6, Erie), Lehigh Valley (5), Chicago River & Indiana (4), and Jersey Central (4).
