EMD SW-1200

The SW-1200 was the last EMD heavy switcher powered by the 1200 horsepower 567 engine.  It was produced from the mid 1950's through the mid 1960's when it was replaced by the SW-1500, powered by the new 645 engine.  Conrail inherited its 68 SW-1200's from the Penn Central (55; 35 PRR, 20 NH),  Erie Lackawanna (8, DL&W), and the Reading Company (5).  Some of these unit remained in service well into the mid 1990's
