EMD GP-30

The EMD GP-30 was a landmark locomotive.  It is considered to be the first of EMD's second generation locomotives.  Its 2250 horsepower were achieved by turbocharging EMD's venerable 567B 16 cylinder engine.  Its carbody is unique, with the long cowl extending from it's "forehead" halfway down the long hood.

Conrail's 82 came from the Penn Central (62) and the Reading Company (20).  52 of the Penn Central units came from the PRR, the other 10 from the NYC.  These units spent most of the 1980's in storage, being brought out for service in busy periods. All were retired by 1991.
