EMD SW-1500

Conrail inherited all of it's roster of EMD SW-1500 switchers from the Penn Central, Reading Company, and Indianapolis Union Railroad. These switchers are used throughout the system for yard and industrial work. They can also be spotted on road freights on their way to an Engine Terminal for major repairs.

SW-1500 9503 drags the decrepit ex-LV hack and a string of cars past R tower Allentown, Pa. later on August 31, 1984. The caboose's days are numbered.
SW-1500 9616 (RDG 2766) is in familiar territory at Glenside, Pa. on SEPTA's R5 Lansdale Line (Reading's Bethlehem Branch) on April 9, 1994. The rare daylight appearance was prompted by the Lansdale Shifter's crew "dying on the clock" the previous night at Johnsville, Pa. on SEPTA's R2 Warminster Line (Reading's New Hope Branch). GP38-2 8118 and 9616 were sent from Abrams Yard to retrieve the Lansdale Shifter's stranded power.
