EMD GP15-1

Conrail purchased the 100 GP15-1 locomotives from EMD in 1979. These units contain components from traded in GP7 and GP9 diesels, such as the Blomberg trucks. These units were acquired to replace the aging fleet of GP7 and GP9's inherited from the predecessor roads. These units are used primarily for local, branchline, and switching service, and occasionally on road freights.
