General Electric B36-7

60 General Electric B36-7's were purchased by Conrail in 1983. These are high horsepower (3600), four axle units for high speed freight service. The acquisition of these units allowed Conrail to retire some of it's aging GP40 fleet inherited from the New York Central and Penn Central.
