We spent two and a half glorious days on Union Island. This is paradise.

The M/V Snapper docked at Clifton, Union Island. I took this picture in very low light from our room at the Clifton Beach Hotel. |

Heike and I spent a wonderful day beneath a palm tree on the magnificent deserted beach at Richmond Bay. |
| Looking the other direction at Richmond Bay. Richmond Bay is on the opposite side of the island from Clifton, about a 20 minute walk. Just take the road out of the back of Clifton, past the diesel-powered generating plant, past the cows and goats, past the salt pond filled with beautiful birds, to this spot. | |

The beach at Big Sand, Union Island. Big Sand is a 10 minute walk from Richmond Bay. From here, Heike looks out at Mayreau and the Tobago Keys. Even more deserted than Richmond Bay, I encountered a 2 foot wide spotted stingray snorkeling in knee deep water. I was a bit startled. |

Heike and the Tobago Keys at Big Sand. There were two storm damaged villas here which have since been rebuilt by the folks who run the Clifton Beach Hotel. Talk about getting away from it all. |

A picture of me on our snorkel trip with Glenroy Adams of Grenadines Dive to the Tobago Keys. Great trip! Snorkeling was fantastic, lots and lots of fish. There was a pretty good incoming tidal current when we were there, so we had to work a little. We ate lunch at the Salt Whistle Bay Club on Mayreau. Glenroy found someone who wanted to go diving, and asked us if we would mind waiting a few hours. After a millisecond of consideration we agreed to be marooned at the posh resort for a few hours, tough break. |
| One of the Tobago Keys. Totally protected as a National Park, but crowded with yachts, these islands are indescribably beautiful. Jacques Cousteau called this group of islands and reefs one of the prettiest in the world. | |

Our LIAT flight (DeHavilland Twin
Otter *STOL) to Grenada (via Carriacou) arriving at Union
Island International airport. Security is in an open wall
tin roof shed on the other side of the runway, one
reaches the main terminal by crossing the runway, if the warning
sign isn't lit. All travel
should be so straightforward. *Short TakeOff and Landing, definitely a requirement |
