Dear Friend, Mother's Day is this Sunday. Having seen the birth of my son last month, with this fresh in my mind and soul, seeing the dedication that women give to their children, from conception through birth and 24/7 feeding after delivery, I have a much better understanding of the unique love that a mother develops for her child. It is documented, far and wide, how mothers get the strength to lift cars off of their children and accomplish other God-empowered feats of courage and strength when protecting their children. A mother's right to self-defense and right to defend her children is not a right given to mothers, or to any of us, from government; it is a right given to mothers and us from God Himself. Yet, I have learned that there are many people who are trying fervently to remove a mother's God-given right to self-defense and defense of her children, using whatever means she deems necessary, through, not only evil force, but through unconstitutional force, that force being unconstitutional legislation. This edition of InfoQuest* is dedicated, not only to Mothers for Mother's Day, but to all of us, to give us the tools and knowledge required to keep our God-given right of self-defense, to defend not only ourselves, but those we know and love. The main focus today is on a group of mothers who got together to defend this right. They are the Second Amendment Sisters (S.A.S.). I make an effort to support them (yes, men can join and support their God-inspired organization); maybe you'll be led to do likewise. CONTENTS: (1) S.A.S. Attacked on The John Walsh Show S.A.S. Fox news article: Women With Guns Fight Back http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,86038,00.html Women need to defend themselves, especially single women or those with husbands overseas. And the media has a responsibility to discuss honestly the issue of gun ownership. The John Walsh Show (search) on NBC may have dealt a blow (4/29) to both goals by "ambushing" three women who agreed to discuss their gun ownership and advocacy on air. Their story is a fascinating glimpse into the sensationalizing bias that surrounds the gun issue. Maria Heil of Second Amendment Sisters, Tiffany Hyatt Theroit of Armed Females of America http://www.armedfemalesofamerica.com and Lisa Marquez had reason to trust John Walsh. The show's Web site describes him as "a tireless advocate for victims' rights and missing children." Moreover, Walsh claims to support the Second Amendment. Why, then, is Maria's commentary about the show entitled "Liar, Liar"? Why does Tiffany accuse the show's staff of "invading our lives and using the fact that Lisa and I were victims to set us up." Why has Lisa released a public statement to explain she was "lied to" and declare that she, her friends and her family are "very disappointed" in Walsh? Lisa had feared the show would be confrontational, making it too painful to discuss the domestic violence that prompted her to buy a gun. She tried to withdraw a few days prior to taping. But, as she explained, a staff member called "and promised this was a show about empowering women and not a debate." Tiffany had a similar experience and said, "we were told it would not be a debate, just about our own individual stories." Lisa finally agreed to appear for the same reason as Tiffany, who had armed herself after being raped by an off-duty police officer. They wanted other women to know their options in self-protection. Instead, the show turned into a humiliating circus, which seemed staged to discredit the pro-gun guests. Maria explained what happened: "We were seated in order of our segments - Tiffany, Lisa, myself, and then Sylvia." Sylvia, whom the show described as "a former female gang member who says that she is now opposed to people owning guns for personal defense," was a surprise to the women. (Strangely, the May issue of Marie Claire Magazine features an article on women and guns in which the same Sylvia is quoted, "When I go back to Compton, Calif., I stay strapped [armed with a concealed gun] 24/7." She also stated, "I spent three years in prison for attempted murder ..." There is a photo of Sylvia holding a gun, which is illegal for anyone with her criminal background to possess. As Maria observed, "I wonder how John Walsh, of America's Most Wanted fame, feels about showcasing a possible felon.") Maria continued, "When Tiffany was telling her story, Sylvia started to say something a couple of times, but stopped herself ... Now it was Lisa's turn. Lisa never got to tell her story because Sylvia constantly interrupted." During a commercial break, Tiffany complained to a producer about Sylvia's hostile interruptions. He reportedly told her to get "more aggressive," perhaps hoping for a "Jerry Springer" type brawl to erupt. While Maria's segment was being taped, "they introduced a woman from the so-called 'Million' Mom March ... During my answers to the MMM'r, Sylvia felt compelled to interrupt me over and over. She even said that I was a criminal because I owned a gun!" In a CNSNews article, Alexandra Jewett, executive producer of The John Walsh Show, denied that the pro-gun women had been set up. At first, she claimed that the MMM audience member just happened to be present and happened to belong to the anti-gun organization. However, as CNSNews reported, "two minutes into the broadcast," the woman had been "featured on camera, with her name and the caption 'Works with teens to educate them about gun violence.'" Jewett acknowledged that the MMM'r had been "placed in the audience by the show's staff." The John Walsh Show should realize that women who pick up guns and learn how to defend themselves are not easily victimized. Maria, Tiffany and Lisa are using the abusive incident to educate people about media bias regarding gun ownership. Meanwhile, Maria is busy correcting statements Walsh made on the show. For example, he claimed "nine kids a day die in gun accidents in the home." Maria observes that, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, the 9-a-day number includes "children" as old as 24 and more than 50 percent of those young adults commit suicide. When you additionally factor out "children" who are killed outside the home while involved in crime, the death rate falls to the lowest in recorded history. In Maria's opinion, Walsh deliberately overstated the number for sensationalism. This is the state of the gun debate in North America. Maria's two daughters - aged 10 and 12 - had to hear their mother called a criminal for legally owning a gun by a woman who boasts of illegally owning one. A battered woman and a rape victim were incessantly harangued while Walsh's staff reportedly did nothing but suggest an escalation of the conflict. Tiffany commented, "Whether women carry a firearm is their choice, but there is nothing wrong with having ... an informed decision." The media should facilitate this information flow, not halt it. ==================== ==================== (2) "Liar, Liar" - The S.A.S. Rebuttal to the John Walsh Show Walsh - of "America's Most Wanted" & IQ* Solution to Media Setups Liar, Liar By Maria Heil http://www.2asisters.org/liarliar/ I first met Sylvia in the hallway outside of the NBC studio where they tape the daytime talk show "The John Walsh Show". She hadn't been in the "green room" with Tiffany, Lisa, my two daughters and me. Sylvia had been kept separate from us. We all had our makeup touched up yet again, and then we went out on stage for a pre-show taping of all of us, in profile. Afterwards we all went back to our green rooms. As it turns out, Tiffany was on the show because she armed herself after a brutal attack in her own home, and she is from the Baton Rouge, LA area where that serial murderer is still at large. I am on the show because I am a "gun-advocate" and I have taught my children about firearms. Lisa is on the show because she armed herself after getting away from an abusive ex-husband. She is also in the May issue of Marie Claire Magazine about "Women & Guns". According to what we had been told about Sylvia, she was an ex-gangbanger who carries 24/7 when she goes back to her old neighborhood. She too was in the Marie Claire Magazine, although she blames guns for the grief in her life, I was told by the producer. Showtime! John Walsh introduced all four of us as being gun-owners. We were seated in order of our segments, Tiffany, Lisa, myself, and then Sylvia. When Tiffany was telling her story, Sylvia started to say something a couple of times, but stopped herself. We went to break. Someone brought out a glass of water for Sylvia, apparently upon her request, but none was offered to the rest of us. Now it was Lisa's turn. Lisa never got to tell her story because Sylvia constantly interrupted. At one point Lisa said, "Excuse me, but I am speaking." To which Sylvia replied, "I'm talking now." Poor Lisa was spitting nails by the time we went to break. My segment was next. They started with my brother and his concerns about my owning a gun. It wasn't anything I couldn't handle. Then they introduced a woman from the so-called "Million" Mom March, although I had been told that this was not supposed to be a debate! During my answers to the MMM'r, Sylvia felt compelled to interrupt me over and over. She even said that I was a criminal because I owned a gun! She went on to say that, if she had a gun, and I made her mad, she would shoot me! At one point she also said something about "rich white women who own guns". Sylvia is black and the three of us are not. We took another break. I looked at Sylvia after the break and she was perky and dry-eyed. When John Walsh started introducing her I looked at him as he was out among the audience. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Sylvia put her head between her knees. I thought that maybe she was nervous. When John Walsh finished introducing her, I turned to look at her and I got quite a surprise. Sylvia had pools of what looked to be tears under her eyes and running down her face. She had reached under her chair for her glass of water and used it to fake tears! I think my jaw dropped! But there was more to come... Sylvia started out by saying that she doesn't own a gun, which is contrary to what John said during the show introduction. She also blames guns for all the grief in her life. It was quite a show she put on. She was crying about having done some bad things with guns but mostly she was upset because her younger brother was shot in the back of the head and died instantly, and he wasn't even "a banger". Then she went on the say that her other brother was in jail for supposedly murdering his wife, and "if" he had done it, he never would have done it if he hadn't had a gun! I pointed out that "if" he did it, then he had murder in his heart, and the gun was not responsible. She was soooo mad! At the end of that segment the Executive Producer came over and grabbed both arms of Sylvia's chair and told her to calm down. After the show Sylvia went to her own green room and we went to ours. We saw her again a little while later when we were taking pictures with John Walsh backstage. Sylvia said nothing to us, and we said nothing to her. Later, back in the green room Lisa told me about the Marie Claire Magazine article (the May issue), and told me to buy one at the train station on the way home, which I did. Once the girls and I were settled on the train I pulled out the magazine and found the article. On page 138 is Sylvia's story. The very first sentence states, "When I go back to Compton, CA, I stay strapped 24/7..." But, I heard her say on the John Walsh Show that she doesn't have a gun, what gives?? There is a large picture of Sylvia, standing outside what appears to be her door, with a gun in her hand and her finger on the trigger. I read on and was shocked to read, "I have done things with guns I regret. I spent three years in prison for attempted murder..." As the train moved through the darkness and the girls dozed, I started thinking. Someone is a liar. Either Marie Claire Magazine lied about Sylvia owning a gun and her story, or Sylvia lied to the magazine about owning a gun, or she lied on the John Walsh Show about not owning a gun. Troubling thing is, there IS that picture in the magazine with a gun in her hand... It had been a very long day and very draining, so my brain wasn't firing on all cylinders. About midnight it finally clicked... she did three years in prison for attempted murder that is probably a felony. If she is a convicted felon, and hasn't had a Presidential Pardon, or gotten her rights restored through the "redress of grievenesses" then she is not even allowed to even hold a gun! That picture is most likely a picture of a felony! It looks like that gun is going to bring her more grief. She chose to be in the article, and if she is breaking the law, she will have to answer for her actions, again. Obviously, someone lied here somewhere. If it was Marie Claire Magazine messing up Sylvia's story, then I hope they have the integrity to clarify their mistake in an upcoming issue. But there IS that picture of Sylvia with a gun. If Sylvia lied to Marie Claire about wearing a gun 24/7 in Compton, CA because she just wanted to be in the magazine, then she owes the magazine an apology. But there IS that picture of Sylvia with a gun. Prior to the taping, if Sylvia lied to the John Walsh Show about having a gun, then she owes them an apology. But there IS that picture of Sylvia with a gun. If Sylvia told the John Walsh Show that the magazine had messed up, and that she doesn't own a gun, then the John Walsh Show owes the three gun-owning women an apology for misrepresenting her. But there IS that picture of Sylvia with a gun. If Sylvia lied on stage about not owning a gun, then she owes everyone in that studio an apology. But there IS that picture of Sylvia with a gun. Bottom line here is that someone lied. The big question is, who is the liar and will there be repercussions? I wonder how John Walsh, of America's Most Wanted fame, feels about showcasing a possible felon on his daytime talk show. I wonder how the editor at Marie Claire Magazine feels about publishing a picture of a possible felony. +++ IQ* Solution to Media Setups: Make an investment. Ephesians 5:11 ==================== ==================== (3) Who Are the Second Amendment Sisters? http://www.2asisters.org/membership/about.html The SECOND AMENDMENT SISTERS, Inc. came about in December 1999, when a group of women decided they had enough: enough of the distortion, the misrepresentation, and the reproach from the anti-Second Amendment crowd. Learning of the Million Mom March and their misleading message was the galvanizing factor for these five women. http://www.2asisters.org/membership/founders.htm (The MMM has since merged with Bell Campaign, then with Handgun Control, Inc., which then changed its name to the Brady Campaign.) At first, the main focus for SAS was that first rally on Mother's Day 2000 to counter the MMM. As the rally drew close, SAS realized that there was a great need in the USA for such an out-spoken women's group. SAS began accepting paid memberships in July of 2000, and continues to grow in leaps and bounds throughout the USA. A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER In a letter sent out in September 1999, Senator Robert Torricelli (D - NJ) opined that laws that "can save even a few lives" are "worth undertaking", implying that the greater good will be served if (senseless: delete) even a few deaths can be prevented. He quoted a 1996 figure of approximately 34,000 gun deaths (that includes 18,166 suicides, 14,037 homicides, and 1,134 accidents) in the United States for emphasis. What Senator Torricelli and other anti-rights zealots repeatedly "forget" to mention is that fact that firearms also produce major societal benefits including 2.5 million defensive uses of firearms each year (5x as many as the number of crimes with firearms), including 400,000 cases where the intended victims thought that they were facing "almost certain death or a high possibility of death." The majority of defensive gun uses does not even involve the discharging of a weapon. Simply displaying the firearm, or firing a warning shot fired into the ground, is often enough to ward off an attacker, with less than 3% of these instances involving the wounding or killing of an assailant. By looking at the number of senseless deaths that guns prevent, it is obvious that the greater good is being served by having armed citizens. Unfortunately, Sen. Torricelli would never accept firearms ownership or concealed carry of defensive arms, even though they save a lot more than "a few lives." While we as a nation have focused on the numbers of children who have been victims of violence, we have forgotten that so many women - so many mothers - have been the victims of violence as well. A restraining order waved at an enraged "ex" has not been proven an effective means of self-defense; neither has a telephone receiver in one's hand. A Department of Justice survey found that about 40% of inmates serving time in jail for intimate violence were either on probation or parole or under a restraining order - at the time of the violent attack on an intimate (spouse, co-habiting partner, date). It is estimated that almost 1.5 million women (over 18) are raped and/or physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States. The D.O.J. Survey found that almost 52% of women at some time in their lives had been the victim of an assault. For increasing numbers of women, ownership of a gun, and knowing how to use it properly, are significant steps toward peace of mind and security. An estimated 17 million women now own guns, and that number is growing. If you are a woman who owns a gun, you have an equalizer. Since most assailants will be bigger and stronger than you and you may also be outnumbered, and almost 90% of those assailants will not have a weapon of their own, you and your loved ones stand a much better chance of getting away unscathed if you are armed. Isn't that your right? A nation without weapons, crime and hatred might seem to be an admirable goal, but it is hardly a realistic one since the criminals will never comply. The world has become a smaller place thanks to television and the Internet, and the freedom we enjoy allows for a variety of images to play upon our screens. In a free society, it is incumbent on parents to guide their children through the confusion brought about by what they see and hear. It is quite simple - good parenting with good moral teaching makes good kids. Parental vigilance ensures that children grow up with an ability to tell right from wrong, to distinguish fantasy and reality. Children who learn good moral values at an early age and that guns are dangerous (not toys or movie props) are more likely to give them the respect they require, and will be unlikely to abuse a firearm in the future. If we are willing to teach kids about safe sex in school to keep them from harming themselves irreversibly, why not teach firearms safety for the same reason? We don't need more laws. Virtuous people will obey laws. Violent criminals will not. Consequently, greater numbers of virtuous people, who abide by laws, are more likely to become victims of violent criminals - study after study has proven that gun control increases violent crime. In countries where extreme measures have been taken to "control guns" (such as Australia and England), the rates of all types of crime have gone up, proving that the stricter the law, the more of a disadvantage good people will face. Self-defense is everyone's right. Vigorous prosecution of and stiff sentences for violent criminals need to be the order of the day. PLEASE HELP! Do you value your Rights? A 1999 UN "Small Arms" report approvingly noted a number of gun control measures in various countries, including weapons turn-in and destruction programs. UN forces have already been used to disarm civilian populations in Kosovo, Haiti, and Somalia. This same policy is likely to be implemented here -- if our leaders continue to transfer more power to the UN. Are you concerned that the United Nations... ...plans to disarm civilians as part of its program to disarm nations? The UN-funded Commission on Global Governance (CGG) called for civilian as well as international disarmament programs in a 1995 report entitled Our Global Neighborhood. In the chapter "Promoting Security," the CGG claimed: "Militarization today not only involves governments spending more than necessary to build up their military arsenals. It has increasingly become a global societal phenomenon, as witnessed by the rampant acquisition and use of increasingly lethal weapons by civilians -- whether individuals seeking a means of self-defense, street gangs, criminals, political opposition groups, or terrorist organizations." Note that civilians "seeking a means of self-defense" constitute a security threat -- juts like "street gangs" or "criminals." In 1997 UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan endorsed a "Small Arms" report that defined as small arms such weapons as "revolvers and self-loading pistols" and "rifles and carbines." Are you concerned that the United Nations... ...threatens to abolish the Second Amendment? Finally, A Bill Worth Supporting! By Chuck Baldwin http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com April 29, 2003 While most new laws emanating from Washington, D.C., these days tend to take freedoms away from us, there is one bill currently in the U.S. House of Representatives that deserves the full support of every American. The bill is numbered H.R. 990 and is titled the "Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement (SAFE) Act of 2003." The bill's chief sponsor is John Hostettler (R-8th/IN). What the bill does is reciprocate state Carry Concealed Weapons (CCW) permits in much the same way that driver's licenses are reciprocated state to state. In other words, a person who has a Concealed Carry permit in one state would be legally allowed to carry his concealed weapon in other states. The actual wording of the bill is as follows: "Notwithstanding any provision of the law of any State or political subdivision thereof, a person who is not prohibited by Federal law from possessing, transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm, and is-- (1) carrying a valid license or permit which is issued pursuant to the law of any State and which permits the person to carry a concealed firearm; or (2) otherwise entitled to carry a concealed firearm in and pursuant to the law of the State of the person's residence, may carry in any State a concealed firearm in accordance with the terms of the license or with the laws of the State of the person's residence, subject to the laws of the State in which the firearm is carried concerning specific types of locations in which firearms may not be carried." Currently, the bill has 22 co-sponsors. I want to encourage my readers to contact their representative and encourage him or her to become a co-sponsor of this important bill. The freedom to possess and carry a firearm is consistent with the Second Amendment and should never be denied by law. In fact, it should not even be necessary to obtain a permit to carry a firearm, as this freedom is duly recognized by the U.S. Constitution as an unalienable, God-given right. However, the only state in the Union that recognizes this right by allowing its citizens to carry firearms without a license is Vermont. This is one reason why Vermont has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. However, as long as obtaining CCW permits is the only manner in which citizens may legally carry concealed weapons, it only makes sense that we be allowed to freely carry weapons when visiting states outside our residence. In fact, out-of-state visitors are often primary targets of criminals, because they know most visitors will be unarmed in compliance with those state laws restricting such carry. Therefore, this law will doubtless save the lives of countless law-abiding people. Contact your House member today, and encourage them to support H. R. 990. And while you're at it, give the White House a call. Let's see if President Bush will get behind this bill. +++ LETTER Copy/Paste/Send this letter to your Federal Representative!
