I was filled with some guilt for being so naive for so long. When I think of my two young sons, I think, why didn't I do something about this sooner? I've glanced at the warning label before.... What you are about to read is a standard warning label that appears on toothpaste for children (this text is from Oral-B toothpaste): "If more than amount used for brushing is swallowed, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately." What are we talking about here? Paint thinner? Chrome polish? Paint? NO. We're talking about toothpaste for children. TOOTHPASTE! Note the words "Poison Control Center." Poison Control Center??!! POISON?? Yes. That's right. How many times do we have to read this label until we realize that toothpaste with fluoride is POISON?! DUH!!! Fluorine compounds or fluorides are listed by the US Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) as among the top 20 of 275 substances that pose the most significant threat to human health.(7) Here are just two reasons from "50 Reasons to Oppose Fluoridation." [Note: depending on which country a report is written, 'fluoride is spelled differently.] 1) Fluoride is not an essential nutrient. No disease has ever been linked to a fluoride deficiency. Humans can have perfectly good teeth without fluoride. 2) Fluoridation is not necessary. Most Western European countries are not fluoridated and have experienced the same decline in dental decay as the US (see data from World Health Organization on levels of tooth decay in Europe, US, New Zealand, and Australia in Appendix 1).
