For a pirate's party or a mermaid theme (or for our future archeologists and Creation scientists).... Here's how to make your own mini island laden with buried treasure. You'll need a disposable bucket and paint stirrer, 4 cups of sand, a cup of dry plaster of Paris mix, 1 and 1/3 cups of water, an 8-inch disposable cake pan, and small toys and trinkets, such as coins, marbles, plastic jewels, and the like. First, stir together the sand, plaster mix, and water in the bucket. Place half of the mixture in the cake pan. Set the toys in the sand mix, and cover them with the rest of the mixture, packing it down well. Let it dry overnight, until the mixture is solid. Dispose of the bucket and stirrer in the trash. Remove the dried mixture from the pan, and invite your child to use heavy-duty plastic utensils and paintbrushes to excavate the buried treasure from the crumbly sand. Make several for a party and have the children work in teams. ==================== ==================== (2) World in The Suitcase? My church has a ministry called Mom to Mom. Put a suitcase on the floor and toss an inflatable globe into it. Have your child point to a country. Look up that country in a book, encyclopedia, or on the internet. After you read a little bit about the country, say, "I'm going on a trip to [country name], and on this trip I'll take [items]. From there, find what you've said and actually pack it. From Family Fun, Oct. 2003, p. 40 ==================== ==================== (3) Living Simple? Tithing Down? Solution? Dear Friend, My pastor presented a great sermon on living a more simple life and not getting wrapped up in secular society's materialistic American dream (a big house, money, etc.). Many Christians fall into this worldview and take on extra jobs, work long hours, etc., all in the name of "I'm doing this for my family." The description in the previous paragraph describes some Christians today. Not being content with the blessings that God has given them. They must have a Lexus. They must send their children to private school and to the best universities. There's another side of the story too. I know of may Christians who are taking multiple jobs to pay normal bills. For example. I live in a townhouse, we can't afford a single home at this time. (Note: I know that I'm blessed to have a home, etc., I'm just making a point.) I drive a 93 Saturn, my wife drives a 94 Saturn; we only buy used cars. I've repaired the headliner on my car so many times using Pep Boys tools, that I've finally just ripped it down. In other words, we spend only on what we need (normal stuff) and we try to fix things ourselves to be thrifty. We believe that, for the most part, the government (public) school system, in its present condition, is not where Jesus wants us putting our children (personal conviction - I'm not judging those who enroll their children in govt. school). So, in order to afford homeschool supplies while paying the ever-increasing public school land taxes, I've had to take a part-time job. The part-time job helps us to pay our bills, too. Now, with a newborn, we hope to get a larger vehicle (mini-van) and we need to save for out-of-pocket medical expenses. So, in order to do this, my wife has been led to start an at-home business that she can balance with homeschooling. I know of many other Christian families who find themselves in the same situation. We're not "big spenders," we're just trying to make ends meet. "So Erich," you may be thinking, "where are you going with this?" Well, history tends to repeat itself if we don't study it. Barna Research, on May 19, 2003, reported that tithing is down 62% in the past year. I've received letters from two organizations, Campus Crusade for Christ and Witcliffe, saying that the missionaries who we support, over all, are receiving less donations than before and need help. I see a pattern. Our taxes are always being increased, never being decreased. That leaves less money. People tithe less. Government dangles a carrot "faith based initiatives" to get back some of the money. With any government socialist handout comes government regulation. Like, the IRS Church pay-off for not talking about politics. Like, taking education vouchers that end up destroying education. A quote that sticks in my mind is, "you may not want to get involved in politics, but politics will always be involved with you!" I believe that we will see tithing go down, more and more, as taxes go up and up. Churches will accept handouts from the "government church" that has strings attached. This must end now. This is why I'm led to get involved. To run for Pennsylvania Senate. Do you see what I see? Do you see history repeating itself? Unlike the Pilgrims, we don't have anywhere to go to worship freely and escape tithe-eliminating taxation. We MUST act here and Now. I implore you to go to the InfoQuest* Activism page to learn how. Godspeed, my Friend. ALERT! COMMENTARY: WOMEN SHOULDN'T BE REQUIRED TO REGISTER FOR THE DRAFT Are men such wimps today that none are outraged enough to rise up and defend their wives, their sweethearts, their daughters, against those who would send them into harm's way? Advocating that women register for the draft is a life-threatening -- as well as a family-threatening -- danger to every young girl who is of draft age now or in the future. When we allow morality law to become federalized, we allow a few select people, just a few people in black robes, to have a powerful light switch. This light switch has many lines running out of the back of it into every single state in our Republic! I really need your help in educating the leaders of our national pro-family organizations who, even though I've sent them the information on our Preserving Morality Law Action Page, are still promoting the elimination of State rights along with the morality law safeguards established by the Christian Founding Fathers of our U.S.A.! Will you contact the following organizations?
