AgapePress Christian News Service "AgapePress News Summary" Jody Brown, Editor P.O. Drawer 2440 Tupelo, MS 38801 URL: http://www.agapepress.org Wednesday, July 23, 2003 4:26 PM ...A Christian activist who teaches computer classes for kindergarten through fifth grade in a New Jersey public school is trying to get students in the habit of taking their Bibles to school all year long. Bob Pawson, national coordinator for the Scriptures in School (SIS) Project, http://www.bringyourbible.com/ believes America's Judeo-Christian heritage has been "ignored, suppressed, and even deliberately distorted" too long. The goals of the SIS Project, he says, are to return the Bible to America's public school classrooms and to restore biblical literacy to the nation's children. According to Pawson, it is perfectly legal for Christian students to "casually, repeatedly, and frequently" inject biblical knowledge into the schools through a process he calls "academic evangelism." He says students can present the truth of the gospel in academics by creatively using biblical references in assignments such as book reports, oral readings, spelling list sentences, dramatic presentations, and essays. Biblical concepts can also be inserted into everyday school life through low-key ways such as book covers, apparel, and jewelry. Such methods of evangelism, he says, are legal and non-disruptive to the school climate. Pawson's group has just announced that the week of September 21-27 will be the 6th annual nationwide "Scriptures in Schools Week." He encourages Christian students, teachers, and support staff to bring their Bibles to schools that week - or as he puts it: "Tote 'em and quote 'em!" SIS Week, he says, complements other national student-centered events in September such as "See You At The Pole" and "Challenge Sunday - Adopt a School for Christ." ==================== ==================== (2) Protect Homeschoolers via Fed HR2732 On July 15, 2003, H.R. 2732, the Homeschool Non-Discrimination Act (HONDA), was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Congresswoman Musgrave (R-CO). Home School Legal Defense Association fully supports this bill. REQUESTED ACTION: Please call or write your representative in Washington and ask him or her to cosponsor this legislation. All that you need to say is that you are asking your congressman "to cosponsor the Homeschool Non-Discrimination Act, H.R. 2732." Without cosponsors, we will not be in a strong position to see the provisions in HONDA enacted. It is important that we get as many congressional cosponsors as we can this week, as at the end of this week the U.S. House will go out of session for the month of August. Cosponsorships cannot be recorded during the break, but HSLDA will be talking to House leadership during the break about the bill. I've presented twice so far before my Borough Council, have been interviewed and had articles written on the Resolution by several newspapers, and I was on CBS 3 KYW Eyewitness News (East Coast) on Monday Night at 11PM. I beseech you to do the same at your Borough/City Council! See this webpage for a complete strategy: http://users.netreach.net/InfoQuest/government.htm#Patriot_Act We all must take action to preserve the Liberty given to us by the Founding Fathers, who looked to Jesus Christ for their guidance. Please pray that I, my family, and those fighting for Truth with me are protected from evil as we do our best to serve the Lord as Daniel did. ==================== ==================== (4) CWA Dissects & Rejects Supreme Court Ruling + What's Perverse About Lawrence? http://www.cwfa.org/articles/4304/LEGAL/misc/index.htm CWA's Chief Legal Counsel Jan LaRue takes apart the Supreme Court's appalling decision declaring sodomy laws unconstitutional.
